Phase One
We consider that primary treatment, in-patient, intensive out patient and long term residential programs as the first phase on the road to sustainable abstinent (drug and alcohol free) living. Students enter the Gatehouse College Campus Residences ready to begin the next phase of their journey.
The key benefit of the college campuses program is that while the students transition into ‘life’ they do this within the safety net of the Gatehouse model with its familiarity and built-in supports. Here they experience life’s realities, make mistakes and take responsibility for themselves.
The goal is that our students build their abilities and transition to at attend school on a full time basis with a full course load.
Phase Two:
into College Campus Program
- Evaluation of educational objectives, strategy, and creation of plans for their achievement
- Assistance of Academic Coaching Team in identification of course selection, transfers, and enrollment
- Students continue with distance-learning course work.
- During the initial transition period, residents have an approved combination of school, work and/or volunteering as they are required to ‘fill’ their days in an accountable way.
- Assistance in obtaining real-world business experience within the local community – gaining skills and confidence
Phase Three
- Course for educational pursuits has been set and student is enrolled and attending on-site college and or vocational classes
- Initial course load of 6-8 credit hours; transitioning to full course load over time.
- Continued Academic coaching, behavioral accountability, 12 step based, group process, individual therapy, and life-skills workshops.
As the students transition to Phase III they are free to come and go as they please and as their schedules allow, but must be accountable to each other and check-in.
Students who maintain their commitments and academic performance may have part-time employment in addition to a full academic course load. Should resident’s GPA’s fall below acceptable levels, part-time employment will stop until their performance has improved. If needed tutoring and structured study sessions will arranged with the assistance of their academic coach.
Students must ‘earn’ the right own and operate a motor vehicle – they must demonstrate their responsibility, adherence to the guidelines of the program and are performing academically. They are solely responsible for the upkeep and operation of their vehicle.
